How to use RV TravelDay

Plan one day at a time. Use the numbered links to move between planning, stops, route review and your travel day.

1. Plan your day

Enter From, To, travel date and departure time. Include a town, province/state or full address. Use “Check this place in Google Maps” to confirm each location, then tick “I checked the town and address.” Change a place and you will need to check it again. Open Time zones when crossing a time-zone boundary. Other settings are under Optional preferences and plan name.

2. Add stops

Add fuel, meals, rest breaks or places to explore in travel order. “Pass through without stopping” guides the route without adding stop time. Enter the minutes you expect to spend at each stop. Move up and Move down change the order.

3. Review the route and arrival time

Open “Review whole route in Google Maps.” Check the locations and roads, note the distance and driving time, then return to this TravelDay tab and enter those figures. They do not transfer automatically. TravelDay adds your stop time and shows estimated arrival in the destination’s time zone.

Explore hills and elevation

“View hills and elevation” shows sampled terrain along an approximate road route. Elevation is height above sea level; grade is the steepness of a climb or descent. A 6% climb rises about 6 metres per 100 metres of horizontal distance. Choose metres or feet. Use Chart detail to zoom into 100 km or 25 km, Earlier/Later to move along the route, and touch the chart or use its slider to read individual samples. Both charts show the same section. Grades average about 2 km of height change to reduce terrain noise. The smooth line connects those estimates; it does not add measurements. Short steep sections may be missed.

The profile can follow different roads from Google Maps. Terrain sampling can miss short steep sections and differs from road height on bridges or in tunnels. It does not establish whether a road suits your RV.

Check known low clearances

Enter your RV’s full travelling height, including rooftop equipment, and an extra planning margin, then select “Check route.” Review every listed restriction and its source. The check uses records at or below 13′6″ or your height plus margin, whichever is higher. A dated snapshot is identified when used. No recorded restrictions means none were found in the available records; it does not mean the route is clear. If the check fails, there is no result to rely on. Confirm posted signs, current restrictions and actual conditions.

4. Travel day

Select “Navigate to [your next place] in Google Maps.” Once you arrive and are parked, return to TravelDay, open Update this stop and choose Mark visited or Skip this place. Directions advance to the next place. On a phone, the Next stop bar takes you to these controls.

Save before departure

Save this plan stores it on this device. Download a text itinerary and back up saved plans for a separate copy. Maps, elevation and clearance lookups require an internet connection. Confirm offline readiness before relying on TravelDay without coverage.
